Color fascination
As a child, Artist Betty Refour was fascinated with color. She drew geometric shapes on notebook paper.
She went to private school and wore uniforms so she became obsessed with clothing and bright colors. She received an Associates Degree in Fashion Design and Ms. Refour continued to draw; years later while recovering from a back injury she began painting as a form of therapy. She got commissions immediately and began showing her work in the Dallas – Ft. Worth area.
One of the people that she did a commission for asked her to design a note card for her baby shower. She had never thought of putting her art on greeting cards but the cards were a hit and she launched a line of greeting cards; Noteworthy Crafts, shortly thereafter. She has been a part of numerous group shows, her work has been exhibited at Dallas City Hall, she has received commissions from people all over the country and she was formerly represented by Main Street Gallery in Richardson, Texas.
Her work can be found in private collections in the US and Canada. She has used her art to advocate for Breast Cancer, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Myeloma, Autism, Aids, Rape victims and various other causes. Although she states her influences are CoCo Chanel and the bold fabrics of Emilio Pucci her work brings to mind Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. Her work still depicts those geometric shapes that she drew as a child only now they are on canvas.
