Emotion and Power
 Jose Ramon Santiago, a self taught abstract and figure painter enjoys creating a style that he likes to call his own.
“I paint...therefore I am," a quote that he tends to live by while he gains inspiration through the love and passion for his family in addition to the world around him. Jose’s figure paintings truly give bodies a language of their own as each figure imitates reality, he creates to symbolize emotion and power by bodily positions.
The absence of facial expression is probably the most unique quality in his work allowing the body language to become our own expression. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, throughout his life Jose lived in various other New Jersey locations from Redbank to Hoboken where his summers were spent during his childhood and teenage years. Jose did not have his first actual art class until attending Brookdale Community College where he ultimately earned his degree in Art.
His earliest experience in art that he remembers was back in the third grade where he participated in a group mural project in which his peers immediately recognized his talents. Thereafter, the fire and passion always remained in his heart for the love of art. His work has been displayed at several venues like the “Jury Art Show” at Brookdale Community College (1999), “Emerging Artist Showcase” (2000-02) and “The Bigart Show” (2007).
A collection of his work was on display at “El Lobo Negro Gallery” in Asbury Park, N.J from 2003-05.
In addition, Jose won an award for a piece that was displayed at Brookdale Community College in 2001. It was at that point that Jose realized that he had the ability to make it within the world of art. Jose’s self proclaimed quote "An artist’s mind is a beautiful journey," serves as an indication of what is yet to emerge. |
